FAQs

Q: Who gets credit for the matching gift? Can corporate matching be used toward my account?
Corporate matching is a wonderful way to “double the impact” of your gift, but we are not permitted to fulfill or reduce the balance of a pledge on your account with a payment from corporate matching. While you may apply for the match, the matching gift company makes the gift. Therefore, the company receives any credit and tax-deduction for the matching amount. You only receive credit and tax-deduction for the original amount you donated.

Q: My employer’s matching program says it is restricted and cannot include religious organizations.
A: In short, Temple Isaiah does not fall within this exclusion because of the open nature of our community, educational, and social programs. Corporate matching has been approved at several Bay Area employers including: Google, Salesforce, Cliff, Chevron, Genentech, United Way, and Robert Half International. Please contact Jen Boxerman at 925-283-8575 or .(JavaScript must be enabled to view this email address) for more information.

Q: What qualifying language should I use to describe Temple Isaiah?
A: Temple Isaiah is a 501c3 nonprofit organization serving over 900 households in Contra Costa County. Their Gan Ilan preschool and most educational and social action programs are not restricted to people of Jewish faith and are open to and benefit the general public. Q: For corporate matching, do I need a new or special donation?
A: No, the match can apply to any charitable donations you’ve already given. Your membership commitment qualifies. So does your building fund or security fee contributions. In other words, matches can be for any tax-deductible donations to TI, just not fee for service payments such as tuition for programs like JQuest, or the fair market value of tickets or purchased goods.

Q: What if I already give to my kids’ school through an employer match, eScrip, RaiseRight, or Amazon Smile?
A: We understand everyone has a lot of great causes that compete for support. In this case, we’re asking you to try out one new program. For example, if you’re already giving to a school through eScrip, try adding Amazon Smile, with TI as your beneficiary.
Also, our charitable giving changes as we go through life. If you’ve recently become an empty nester, please consider changing beneficiaries to TI if you feel it’s appropriate.
Finally, some programs let you split your donation between 2 or 3 charities, so please consider making TI one of them.

Q: This sounds too good to be true, what’s the catch?
A: There is no catch. This is simply a way for these companies to practice their own charitable giving by supporting nonprofit organizations like Temple Isaiah.

Q: The donation / percentage shared is such a small amount!
A: Like the power of compound interest, small actions repeated over time add up to big change!
